Tourists spend more nights in Lithuania than in Latvia or Estonia. According to EUROSTAT, the official statistical office of the European Union, in 2016 the number of overnight stays of tourists (local as well as foreign) who stayed in Lithuanian accommodation establishments, including rural tourism farmsteads, was the largest in the Baltic states and comprised 7 million, while in Estonia and Latvia this number amounted to 6.2 million and 4.4 million respectively.
According to the statistical data of accomodation establishments of 2016, last year, Lithuania recorded 1.49 million tourists from abroad who visited Lithuania and spent here at least one night. This is 9.4% more than in 2015. Meanwhile, the number of local tourists increased by 10.2% – as many as 1.26 million of Lithuanian population travelled and spent at least one night in accomodation establishments last year. The overall increase in Lithuania’s tourism in 2016 amounts to 9.8% (compared to 5.9% in 2015).
Starting the year of traveling in January has already become a tradition. This year, the international tourism, travel and active leisure exhibition “Adventur” marks its fifth anniversary. “The trends of food tourism have been growing throughout the world and also in Lithuania. Culinary experience for travellers has increasingly become the aim of traveling. However, tasting is not only flavours of local dishes; we also taste using ears, eyes and the heart. Impressions collected this way stir up the inner and outer limits of our personality, teach us openness” - Jurgita Kazlauskienė, Head of the State Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Economy, explained the invitation to taste the world and Lithuania. The exhibition will take place in Vilnius, in the exhibition and congress centre Litexpo on January 20-22.
Expropriation of the Lithuanian tourism trademark and its use for purposes discrediting the country is a reprehensible act and violation of intellectual property, and the State Tourism Department under the Ministry of Economy (hereinafter - SDT) strictly dissociates itself from anonymous “Lituania – imperfect perfection” page on Facebook.
Restaurants in Lithuania were classed as excellent by the “White Guide”, the leading restaurant guide in the Nordic countries. Among restaurants in the Baltic states that were rated for the first time, as many as six Lithuanian restaurants gained the highest ratings!
The State Department of Tourism has introduced new concept of Lithuania's new national tourism brand“Lithuania. Real is beautiful” – this slogan has been chosen as the main focus of state tourism marketing.
In the first quarter this year, organisations providing accommodation services in Lithuania received as many as 11 per cent more tourists compared to the same period last year. In the period from January to June, around 1.2 million tourists stayed in Lithuania. Lithuanians accounted for slightly less than half of them, namely, 46 per cent (548,000), meanwhile, foreigners accounted for 54 per cent (652,000) of all tourists coming to Lithuania. Most tourists arrived from Belarus (76,500), Germany (72,000) and Poland (70,000).
International tourism receipts in destinations around the world grew by 3.6% in 2015, in line with the 4.4% increase in international arrivals. For the fourth consecutive year, international tourism grew faster than world merchandise trade, raising tourism’s share in world’s exports to 7% in 2015. The total export value from international tourism amounted to US$ 1.4 trillion.
The wonderful and always pulsating Old Town of Vilnius, which is well known for the multiplicity of new and traditional events, will invite Latvian residents to rediscover the neighbouring Lithuania. On February 5-7, at the international tourism exhibition Balttour 2016, which is held in Riga, Latvians will be invited to visit the Treetop Walking Path in Anykščiai, which was recognized as the world’s most innovative tourist attraction by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation.
The end of January marks is the time to plan your new journeys. Get Ready to Travel is the slogan of the international tourism, travel and active leisure exhibition Adventur which this year is inviting its loyal visitors to the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre LITEXPO in Vilnius for the fourth time. The highlight of this year's exhibition is city break.
