About Lithuania – using no words

2017-10-13

It is impossible to remain indifferent to Lithuania and experiences awaiting you here. A new video on Lithuania does not use words, but shows the most vivid emotions of tourists from around the world. In our country, what surprises them most? What takes their breath away? What puts them in a romantic mood? What makes them happy? The message for foreign tourists has been directed by Mykolas Vildžiūnas, while the author of the idea is the Department of Tourism.

“According to a survey conducted by Google, when travellers are dreaming about a trip, as many as 66 per cent of them look through videos during the first stage of preparation for travelling – when they are considering where to go or are just dreaming. Therefore, a new video about Lithuania was a necessity in this epoch of the visual. We wanted very much to create a video not only to represent tourism possibilities in Lithuania, but also to promise tourists an exceptional acquaintance with a country, which is not similar to any other European country, to inspire positive emotions and a desire to visit as well as, certainly, to conform to the country’s tourism concept “Lithuania. Real is Beautiful.” That is why we decided to portray the most impressive views of Lithuania through the tourists’ emotions, senses and experiences. After all, a contemporary tourist is first of all looking for new experiences while travelling,” says Indrė Trakimaitė-Šeškuvienė, Acting Director of the Department of Tourism.

She notes that the video is primarily intended for tourists from ten priority markets of inbound tourism: the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Italy, France, China, Israel, the USA and Japan. The main purpose of the video – to form the image of Lithuania as a country attractive for tourism.

“The year of the creation of the video ran by very quickly, it seemed there was a lot of time, but we were always short of it. We had to catch favourable weather, change our plans because of the missing winter, when there was no snow throughout February, catch the escaping live emotion of the actors and fit kilometres of Lithuania into millimetres of the film. I have been left with the feeling that we created a film, not a video,” admits director Mykolas Vildžiūnas.

The video presenting Lithuania will be used in all marketing platforms of the Department of Tourism: on the accounts “Real is Beautiful” on Facebook and Youtube, on social networking sites’ accounts intended for foreigners in English, German, Italian, French, Japanese, Swedish, Norwegian and Hebrew as well as during the events and exhibitions presenting tourism possibilities of Lithuania. The video has also been distributed to Lithuanian communities, embassies and tourism representations. It has also been posted on the website www.Lithuania.travel. It may be used by everyone willing to present Lithuania as a tourist country (the video is available here).

As from today, the video has also been included into the constant repertoire of the cinema hall Film Spot LT of Vilnius Airport.
